[week 9]
The image below contains all my rough sketches and ideas
for this project. I know that I definitely want to include large use of
graphical elements and textures but also keep the structure minimal and
clean? We'll see how I figure that out.

Week 09
For Visual Design, it would be nice if I could include more braille in
the e-publication. My current idea is to translate each heading and
subheading and other notable sections into braille using a trusted
online translator. Following this, I will insert the braille text side
by side or close to the English text. In my head, it seems like a good
idea currently, I can only hope I execute it as well.
I like the current direction of aesthetics that I have chosen as well as
the progress I’ve made on samples of subsection pages and spread
designs.
Week 10
Keep in mind that the layout of pages is important for first impressions
on viewers! Ensure it is well-balanced, both in text amount and
graphical elements.
I’m pretty happy with the new spread designs and the progress I’ve made
with formatting. I’m not sure if I can manage to kern each section or
paragraph on time but I will sure try!

FEEDBACK
Week 09
Direct Feedback:
Dr. Hayati is okay with my choice of aesthetic/graphic design I have
selected. Title page is interesting, try playing around with the idea of
blurry visuals and images because I am focusing on users with visual
impairments. I should try exploring the idea of using braille type fonts
for headings and subheadings or include more braille translations
throughout the design.
Week 10
General Feedback:
Make sure the overall composition and layout of the pages are not too
loose or cramped: make sure it is balanced in weight.
Week 11
Direct Feedback (there was too much so I condensed it into basic
notes):
Dr. Hayati likes my design :D. The ambiguous, blur concept is good. I
should slightly extend the line in the design of "Project Design
Recommendations". I need to do the title page as soon as possible to
show Dr. Hayati. There are no issues with writing, it is very clear.
Grammar and style of writing is okay, Dr. Hayati will not interfere
with this. I should put in citations from gurus justifying my
selection of research methodologies as well as pros and cons of the
adoption of each method. I am missing the research conceptual
framework. Elaborate more in section 5, regarding how much I
understand the primary and secondary data and how they’ve helped me to
form a critical discussion on all my research questions
REFLECTION
This was personally my favourite project out of all the design research
dissertation submissions. Being able to design what I had written made
it feel all the more real that I was researching something in more
detail than I have ever researched anything academically. I kept a black
and white colour scheme with hints of a vibrant pink speckled in
important headings, subheadings, and small illustrations to give it a
highlight and make the appearance not so flat.
I feel like this is essentially part of what a graphic design student
would learn so it was nice to get a peek into what they do. Although the
idea sounds absolutely bizarre, I would love to try printing it to get a
view at what it would look like physically. However, I realise that
trying to print 176 A5 pages would not only be a nightmare for my mental
health but also for my wallet. It was still a very nice experience to
learn more about layouts, design and illustrations for books.
All in all, while it was an arduous and backbreaking Adobe InDesign
experience, it was very fun. It was almost completely new to me, and I
seem to enjoy editing design for layouts and books so I'd honestly try
it again. By the time I do, I hope it's an even more refined outcome and
enjoyable event than this one.
