REFLECTION
Over the course of attending the six talks, I believe I gained valuable insights into various areas of professional and personal development. Each session offered unique perspectives and practical advice that can significantly impact my future endeavours. So here’s a summary of what I learned from each talk and how I plan to apply these insights.
1. "Financial Literacy for Fresh Graduates" by Maybank
This lecture, presented by Shandy Lee, focused on essential financial strategies for managing personal finances. My key takeaways included the importance of saving and investing wisely, understanding the difference between saving (low risk) and investing (higher risk but potentially higher returns), and avoiding common rookie mistakes. Shandy emphasised the necessity of building an emergency fund and starting investments early to benefit from compound interest.
Application: I plan to implement the “pay yourself first” strategy by allocating a portion of my income to savings and investments before addressing other expenses. Additionally, I will prioritise building an emergency fund and focus on career advancement before making substantial investments. I hope this approach will help me achieve financial stability and make informed decisions about my finances.
2. "Aspire to Inspire" by POS Malaysia
This keynote session with Charles Brewer and Anil Nair highlighted the importance of ethics, emotional intelligence (EQ), and personality in professional growth. They stressed that while technical skills are important, good human qualities are essential for success and leadership. The speakers emphasised the need for integrity, empathy, and effective communication.
Application: I will work on improving my emotional intelligence by seeking feedback, practicing empathy, and maintaining high ethical standards in all professional interactions. I think developing these qualities will help me build strong relationships and lead effectively.
3. "The Art of Storytelling" by Low Ngai Yuen
Low Ngai Yuen’s talk explored the art of crafting compelling stories and the importance of understanding your audience. She explained that storytelling is not just about creativity but about structuring ideas in a relatable and believable manner. The session also addressed the distinction between textual and visual storytelling and the value of authenticity.
Application: I plan to apply these storytelling techniques by structuring my narratives to be more engaging and tailored to my audience. I will focus on creating authentic and relatable stories to connect with others on a deeper level, whether in personal presentations or professional communications.
4. "Maximize Your LinkedIn Presence" by Nurul Syafiqah Mohd Nazli
This session, led by Nurul Syafiqah Mohd Nazli, provided practical advice on optimising LinkedIn profiles. Key points included the importance of a professional profile photo, a compelling header, and the appropriate use of LinkedIn for career growth and networking. She emphasised that LinkedIn should be used for professional updates and connections, not personal stories or controversial opinions.
Application: I will update my LinkedIn profile to reflect a professional image and engaging header. I will ensure that my content is relevant to my career and networking goals, and be mindful of maintaining a professional tone in my posts and interactions.
5. "A.I. in Digital Media" by Hassan with Grab
Hassan’s talk covered the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on digital media. He discussed how AI is used for personalising content, automating processes, and improving user engagement. The session also highlighted ethical considerations, such as transparency and fairness in AI systems.
Application: I will stay informed about AI advancements and explore how they can be integrated into digital media projects. By understanding AI’s potential and ethical implications, I can leverage technology to enhance user experiences while ensuring responsible practices.
6. "Digital Transformation and Solutions: The Importance of Making It Easy" by Aplikasi
Aplikasi’s session clarified the concepts of digitisation, digitalisation, and digital transformation. They emphasised the importance of making technology solutions user-friendly and integrating new technologies in a way that complements existing systems. The focus was on practical and accessible technology solutions.
Application: I will adopt a strategic approach to digital transformation by prioritising simplicity and usability in technology projects. I will aim to integrate new technologies in ways that enhance existing processes and deliver tangible benefits.
Conclusion
All in all, I felt that the six talks provided a comprehensive overview of various aspects of professional and personal development, from financial literacy and emotional intelligence to storytelling, LinkedIn optimisation, AI in digital media, and digital transformation. It was a great variety and amount of information to take in but I believe that the insights gained from these sessions will guide me in making informed decisions, enhancing my professional presence, and effectively leveraging technology in my future plans. By applying these lessons, I aim to build a solid foundation for continued growth and success in my career.
