Idea #1 Intractable Cooking Food Interface
- Education Purpose:
- The purpose of this idea is to raise awareness of the importance of healthy food choices and good nutrition for children that may lead them to make better lifestyle choices in a fun, interactive manner.
- Rationale:
- Cooking is an essential life skill and can help you understand what goes into your body and what ingredients are good for your health. A better understanding of nutrition and a balanced diet from a young age can set the foundation for healthy future eating habits.
- Target Audience:
- Children between the ages of 7 - 12 years old.
- Problem Statement:
- There may be all sorts of issues that children may encounter which stem from a lack of knowledge about proper nutrition. For example, it may cause a difficult relationship with food, picky eating for years after maturing, malnutrition from deficiencies in essential vitamins and nutrients, etc.
References:
Mechanics
- Scanning a picture inside a cookbook will pop up an opening menu screen with the food recipe.
- Once the recipe is clicked, instructions, a cooking pot and number of ingredients (both related and unrelated to the recipe) pop up and the user is able to interact with the different ingredients (additionally there are pop up descriptions) and understand the benefits of the specific food and what not to include as much in their diet.
- There are mixing, chopping and cooking functions.
- Finishing final screen and retry button.

Idea #2 Animal (Cat) Care Instructions
- Education Purpose:
- To educate children about basic animal care in a simple, easy to understand and yet interesting way.
- Rationale:
- The learning of and the understanding of life and animal care is an important part of children's lives and can help them develop their empathy, responsibility and respect. Additionally, it may enrich their learning of nature and biology.
- Target Audience:
- Children between the ages of 6 - 12 years old.
- Problem Statement:
- Children that do not learn about the importance of caring for animals may not have as much compassion or understanding of caring for other living beings.

Mechanics
- Scanning a picture of a cat on paper will pop up a 3D version of that cat.
- On the sides, there will be a variety of things that children can use to offer or interact with the animal (food, water, toys, catnip, a heart, a punching glove, cucumber, etc) which will either make it happy or sad.
- There are also petting and hitting functions.
Idea #3 Interactable Interior Design Space
- Education Purpose:
- To provide an understanding of how drastically furniture placements and choices can affect the look and atmosphere in a visual way.
- Rationale:
- To improve creative skills and improve the user's personal space in a functional, pleasant and liveable manner. Having a place that is neat and well-organised makes it more comfortable and also works as a stress reliever.
- Target Audience:
- Interior design students or people who like planning their rooms without consequences.
- Problem Statement:
- None really, simply to prevent horrible interior design.
References:
Mechanics
- Scanning an empty box (acts as the empty room) will pop up a 3D environment with several pieces of furniture and decorations.
- These pieces of furniture can be moved around and rotated + the room can be rotated too.
- There are changing colour and size functions.

FEEDBACK
[22/09/2022]
- Think more about the details and mechanics of the game.
- Idea 1
- Expand upon details and functions with your idea
- What is the AR element?
- What do you scan?
- Idea 2
- Similar to idea 1 feedback
- Idea 3
- Maybe expand on what IKEA has to offer in their similar app
- Try doing images hanging on the wall along with some furniture
- My initial idea doesn’t really have a useful purpose in AR form
REFLECTION
The deadline submission for this was quite stressful because I was having
some issues with the video editing and YouTube upload but thankfully I
managed to pull through. This project is genuinely interesting to me and
while I am scared and very new to Unity's software, I will do my best to
create an aesthetic, functioning prototype of my idea.
